Adelphi Conference To Focus on Ecological Justice

Director of documentary on Flint's water crisis to keynote

Garden City, NY (03/31/2022) — On Tuesday, April 12, Adelphi University will host its second annual ecological justice and social work conference, an event that highlights the ways social workers can achieve environmental and ecological justice. "Vital Connections: Fostering Resilience and Cultivating Impact" will focus on the intersections between practice, policy and ecological justice through the lens of connection and resilience.

The keynote speaker will be Cedric Taylor, Ph.D., sociologist and documentary filmmaker. Taylor is associate professor of sociology at Central Michigan University and visiting associate professor in the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. His scholarly and creative endeavors focus on racial health disparities, environmental justice and visual sociology. He is also the director and co-producer of "Nor Any Drop to Drink: Flint's Water Crisis".

Sponsored by Adelphi's School of Social Work, Continuing Education and Professional Development, and the Institute for Social Work and Ecological Justice, the conference will feature multiple sessions aimed at addressing social problems and advancing environmental and community wellbeing.

Leading these sessions will be experts from Adelphi, Columbia University, University of Denver, Tulane University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and practitioners and non-profit leaders from across the country.
