Adelphi Arts Legends to Be Celebrated at 23rd Annual President's Gala
Garden City, NY (05/12/2023) — Adelphi University will celebrate its legacy and ties to the arts at its 23rd annual President's Gala on Saturday, June 10, at the Garden City Hotel. An Evening for the Arts at Adelphi: Legends and Legacies will bring the Adelphi community together to enjoy a memorable and festive evening and to recognize these honorees for their dedication to and support of the University's mission of transforming lives:
- The Family of Jonathan Larson '82, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and composer of Rent and tick, tick ... Boom!, which was recently adapted by Lin Manuel Miranda. The Larson family, which endows the Jonathan Larson Scholarship Fund, will be honored with the President's Humanitarian Award.
- Mary Jane '62 and Thomas Poole, sponsors of the Poole Family Broadway Series. These Garden City, NY residents have brought established and up-and-coming stars of Broadway to Adelphi, including Chita Rivera, Anthony Rapp and T. Oliver Reid, who will be returning to perform at the Gala along with students and alumni. The Pooles will receive the President's Award for Distinguished Service for their service to Adelphi and the Garden City community.
- Peter Principato '87, Emmy-award winning producer of Key & Peele and founding partner of Artists First, a Hollywood talent and production company. Principato, who supports the Principato '87 Moving Image Arts Scholarship, will receive the President's Outstanding Alumni Award, which honors an alumnus or alumna who has achieved distinguished success in professional life.
A heartfelt tribute to Adelphi's benefactors and inspiring stories of student transformation will be an important part of the festivities, which include a cocktail hour and exhibition of student work, dinner with video presentations and remarks, and live entertainment.
"Adelphi's history is rooted in artistic excellence," said Adelphi's President Christine M. Riordan. "We are thrilled to celebrate some of our most distinguished alumni and talented students whose passion inspires our vision for an even stronger future as a hub of creativity and expression."
Proceeds from the event will benefit The Momentum Fund, advancing the goals of the University's recently launched Momentum 2 strategic plan and ensuring that Adelphi's education remains world-class, cutting-edge and accessible to all students.
The evening's festivities begin at 6 p.m. To purchase tickets or make a contribution in support of student success at Adelphi, visit adelphi.edu/gala.
