Adelphi PAC Presents Reimagined Antigone Beginning March 29
Garden City, NY (03/10/2022) — The talented students of Adelphi University's Department of Theatre take the stage for seven performances of a reimagined Antigone at the Adelphi's Performing Arts Center (PAC) from Tuesday, March 29 through Sunday, April 3. The classic tragedy written by Sophokles is offered with a new translation by poet and MacArthur fellow Anne Carson. The production is directed by Adelphi student Matthew Pezzulich.
The reimagined Antigone is a taut, unsentimental account of a woman who, as removed from life as she is from death, ends up taking both into her own hands. Should love or law guarantee the dignity of the dead? Carson's new colloquial translation pares Sophokles' great question to the tragic bone.
Antigone will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29; Thursday, March 31; Friday, April 1; and Saturday, April 2 at the Black Box Theatre at the Adelphi PAC. The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Antigone will also be livestreamed on Saturday night for those unable to attend in person.
Tickets are $20, with discounts available to seniors, students, alumni and employees. Livestream access is $10. For more information, call Lucia and Steven N. Thanks to the success of masks, vaccines, and tests in reducing the COVID-19 infection rate to new lows, we are no longer requiring guests to show proof of vaccination or a negative test when attending a performance at Adelphi. Masks are still required at all times while inside the PAC. We ask that everyone follow ongoing health guidelines to stay home if they have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days, knowingly been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 (or is experiencing symptoms and awaiting test results), or are feeling sick (especially with a fever) yourself.
