Adelphi University Hosts Long Island, Queens Students for College Awareness Day - December 13

Garden City, NY (12/06/2022) — Adelphi University will host Long Island and Queens students for its Fall College Awareness Day on Tuesday, December 13 from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. This semi-annual event gives over 400 students between the 9th and 12th grades the opportunity to engage in workshops and discussions designed to educate and excite students about the college experience.

The conference-style event will feature hands-on college readiness discussions and workshop sessions hosted by Adelphi administrators to enhance their skills and focus on preparing them for the transition from high school students to successful adult college students. Students will hear from experts about admissions requirements, the application process, academic programs, mentorship, financial aid, athletics, LGBTQIA+ support, the benefits of a college education and more.

Schools participating in College Awareness Day will include Bronxwood Preparatory Academy, Evergreen Charter High School, Harmony Heights School, Island Trees High School, Long Island City High School, Queens School of Inquiry, Rockaway Park High School for Environmental Sustainability, St. John's University Liberty Partnerships Program, Uniondale High School and York Early College Academy.

Each student will receive a "I Have a Plan" card to encourage them to think about what their dreams are and the steps they can take to achieve their goals, starting with their education. The goal of the program is to show students that no matter their age or where they are in life, they can always aspire to do and be better for themselves and their community.

The event will conclude with a student-guided tour of Adelphi's Garden City campus.
