Adelphi University to Host Spring Virtual College Awareness Day

Garden City, NY (05/06/2022) — Adelphi University will host its Spring Virtual College Awareness Day from 8:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. This semi-annual event gives nearly 250 students between the 5th and 12th grades the opportunity to engage in workshops and discussions designed to educate and excite students about the college experience.

The conference-style event will include students and chaperones from Park Place Community Middle School in Brooklyn, Project Excel Youth Bureau in Huntington, New Heights Middle School in Brooklyn, the Osmond A. Church School in Queens, the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center in the Bronx, John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, and the Samuel C. Barnes School in Brooklyn.

Throughout the event, students will participate in interactive college-readiness workshops that provide tools they need to begin creating an academic and professional plan for their future. Experts from Adelphi will explain admissions requirements, the application process, academic programs and the benefits of a college education.

Each student will receive a digital copy of a "I Have a Plan" card to encourage them to think about what their dreams are and the steps they can take to achieve their goals, starting with their education. The goal of the program is to show students that no matter their age or where they are in life, they can always aspire to do and be better for themselves and their community.

The event will conclude with a student-guided virtual tour of Adelphi's Garden City campus.
