High School Performers to Hone Their Skills at Adelphi's 'A Day with the Arts'

Garden City, NY (09/29/2021) — On Friday, October 8, over 150 students from twelve high schools across Long Island will participate in the annual A Day with the Arts hosted by Adelphi University. The day-long virtual event is designed to help high schoolers hone their skills through intensive hands-on workshops led by Adelphi's faculty.

The workshops will cover acting, music and theatre with specific focus on areas such as acting with accents, special effects makeup for theatre, Broadway vocal repertoire, classical voice repertoire, dance improvisation and contemporary dance.

Co-founder of the Black Theatre Coalition and cast member of the Tony award-winning musical Hadestown T. Oliver Reid will deliver a special performance to the participants followed by a question and answer session. The Black Theatre Coalition aims to increase representation of Black theatre professionals behind the scenes by five-fold within the next decade. Reid has also been part of the company of a dozen other Broadway shows including Chicago, Mary Poppins, Kiss Me Kate and the 25th anniversary of Dreamgirls. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he studied music with a focus on vocal performance.

Adelphi's Day with the Arts, which runs from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., will conclude with a virtual campus tour.
