Baldwin Resident James Francis Jr. Appointed Executive Director of Public Safety and Security at Adelphi

Garden City, NY (02/20/2024) — Adelphi University has announced the appointment of James Francis Jr. as the University's new Executive Director for Public Safety and Security. Francis, who joined Adelphi in January, comes to the University from Baruch College at The City University of New York (CUNY) and has served in university law enforcement operations at CUNY for more than 15 years. Francis, originally from the Bronx, now lives in Baldwin, NY.

In his new role, Francis will lead the security, safety, transportation and parking operations for Adelphi's Garden City, New York City, Hauppauge and Hudson Valley campus locations. He will also oversee the University's collaborative efforts with law enforcement agencies, implement emergency management, ensure Adelph's compliance with state and local laws and regulations, and partner with leadership on strategic planning.

"Francis's extensive experience with cross-functional team collaboration and community policing in an academic community as diverse as CUNY allowed him to stand out in a national search that yielded about 140 applicants," said John Siderakis, Adelphi's chief administrative officer. "In his role overseeing critical components of safety, security, transportation, parking, officer training, emergency preparedness and locksmith operations, Francis will continue to be supported by essential team members of our Division of Human Resources, Safety and Operations."

Prior to serving three years as Deputy Director of Public Safety at Baruch, Francis spent two years overseeing the training of all CUNY peace officers, campus security assistants and other contracted law enforcement agencies. His previous experience also includes four years as a sergeant at CUNY's Bronx Community College and three years as a sergeant at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Francis earned his bachelor's degree in criminology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, studied criminal justice at Hostos Community College and is on track to receive his master's degree in industrial and organizational psychology this summer.
