Long Island High School Journalists Win Quill Awards at Adelphi Press Day

Garden City, NY (02/22/2022) — Nearly 250 high school students from across Long Island participated in Adelphi University's annual Press Day on Friday, February 18. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Quill Awards, which recognized student-journalists for their outstanding work on their school newspapers.

This year, Lynbrook High School's paper, Horizon, took home the top award, Best Newspaper (Print or Online).

"I believe if you can train students to be responsible journalists, you can really have a big ripple effect on making the world a better place," said Mark Grabowski, associate professor journalism at Adelphi and host of Press Day. "Based on the questions the student journalists asked during our panel discussion and workshops along with the content they submitted to our journalism awards contest, I think the future of journalism is in good hands. I was ecstatic with our great turnout. Scholastic journalism is so important."
