Student-Written Play "A Rose Meant to Wither" to be Staged at Adelphi PAC

Garden City, NY (04/18/2022) — The moving play written by current Adelphi student Fernando Mercado, "A Rose Meant to Wither," makes its debut at Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (PAC) with four performances May 5-7.

The play is an exploration of loss and grief through the lenses of someone who experiences severe mental illness. It is directed by Lauren DeLeon. "A Rose Meant to Wither" is a story about hope, about fear and about love. Most of all, it is about the struggle many have to stay alive when you're split between the reality we coexist in, and the reality in your mind, with both in constant war with each other.

The production takes place at the Black Box Theatre at Adelphi's PAC at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 5-7. An additional matinee show on Saturday, May 7, starts at 2 p.m. The show will also be livestreamed Saturday night for those unable to attend in person.

Tickets are $20, with discounts available to seniors, students, alumni and employees. Livestream access is $5. For more information, call the Lucia and Steven N. Fischer Box Office at 516-877-4000 or email boxoffice@adelphi.edu. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and is also open two hours before most scheduled performances. Ticket sales, livestreaming details, and additional information are available online.

Our priority is to ensure the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and the entire Adelphi community against COVID-19. Thanks to the success of masks, vaccines and testing in reducing the COVID-19 infection rate, we no longer require guests to show proof of vaccination or a negative test when attending a performance at Adelphi. Masks are still required for all audience members while inside the theatre. We ask that everyone follow ongoing health guidelines to stay home if they have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days, knowingly been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 (or is experiencing symptoms and awaiting test results), or are feeling sick (especially with a fever).

These policies will remain in place until further notice and are subject to change at any time. Contact the box office with any questions.
