True Black History Museum to Host Virtual Workshop at Adelphi - September 28

Garden City, NY (09/23/2020) — Fred Saffold, the director and founder of the True Black History Museum, will take the Adelphi University community and other interested participants on a journey through the African-American experience in a virtual workshop on Monday, September 28, 2020.

"What They Didn't Teach You in History Class: America's Hidden True Black History" is part of an Adelphi Student Government Association speakers series focused on diversity and inclusion.

The True Black History Museum was established to preserve the history of African-American people and to educate others of the many contributions that Black Americans have made to humanity. The museum's collection of rare and authentic artifacts, dating from the late 1700s to the 21st century, celebrates and highlights contributions of African Americans in the arts, sciences, sports, entertainment, education and politics.

Throughout this interactive workshop, Saffold will examine American racism and explore possible solutions to the country's race issues, utilizing several artifacts from the museum's collection and how they have historic significance that impacts society today. The goal of the workshop is for the audience to learn how these artifacts and images shaped racial attitudes and worldviews that still exist today, challenging participants to take action and to make a more inclusive and equitable America.

The event, which will begin at 7 p.m. via Zoom, is free and open to the public. Registration is required -- visit bit.ly/AUsaffold.
