Adelphi PAC Presents Grammy-Nominated Wind Quintet Imani Winds

Garden City, NY (10/14/2021) — The Grammy-nominated wind quintet Imani Winds will perform on Friday, October 22, at Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center. The concert will take place on the Westermann Stage at Adelphi PAC's Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Celebrating over two decades of music making, Imani Winds has led both a revolution and evolution of the wind quintet through their dynamic playing, adventurous programming, imaginative collaborations and outreach endeavors that have inspired audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Since 1997, the quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic performances of culturally relevant programs.

With its deep commitment to commissioning new works for the wind quintet, the group continues to enrich the traditional repertoire while bridging European, American, African, and Latin American traditions. The program will include:

Nkosi si ke Leli (South African National Anthem) -- Enoch Manyaki Sontonga arr. Valerie Coleman

Le Tombeau de Couperin -- Maurice Ravel arr. Mason Jones

Quartet #8 Op 110 -- Dmitri Shostakovich arr. Mark Popkin

Afro-Cuban Concerto -- Valerie Coleman

Wapango -- Paquito D'Rivera

Before the concert, Imani Winds will visit with Adelphi students, faculty and staff for a timely discussion on race, diversity and equity in classical music and their unique role in expanding opportunities for underrepresented performers and composers. [While this piece is not open to the general public, members of the media are welcome to cover. ]

Tickets for this show are $30 Adult; $28 Senior Citizen 60+; $25 AU Alumni, AU Staff/Faculty; $10 Student; $5 Adelphi Student. The program will also be live streamed for those unable to attend in person. Learn more and purchase tickets for Imani Winds at adelphi.edu/events/imani-winds.

Adelphi PAC's priority is to ensure the safety of patrons, artists, staff and the entire Adelphi community against COVID-19. All audience members age 12 and over are required to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Anyone under 12 or who is not fully vaccinated must show proof of a negative test taken within 72 hours of the performance. All guests regardless of age or vaccination status will be required to wear masks while inside the Adelphi PAC.

In addition, capacity will be limited to 50 percent for many of PAC's events. These policies will remain in place at least through December 31, 2021, and are subject to change at any time.
