Adelphi Receives Prestigious Accreditation for Master of Public Health Program
Garden City, NY (07/06/2022) — Adelphi University has earned accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs. The accreditation was given to Adelphi's Master of Public Health (MPH) program for its excellence in public health education.
"CEPH accreditation ensures the highest quality and state-of-the-art education in public health," said Maria-Pilar Martin, MD, program director of the Adelphi's MPH program. "By attending an accredited program in public health, our students benefit from a broad range of educational and experiential training."
The CEPH accreditation is a distinguished achievement with a challenging review process that can take up to three years to earn. CEPH's purpose is to promote quality in public health education, to assure that public health programs meet the standards essential for conduct and to encourage improvements in education for public health. Adelphi's MPH program received accreditation -- effective until 2027 -- for identifying, preventing and solving community health problems.
"This tremendous and years-long accomplishment reflects the integrity and quality of our public health program, and has been a true team effort," said Christopher Storm, PhD, Adelphi's provost and executive vice president.
CEPH accreditation allows students to apply for further training in federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Students are also eligible to take the Certification in Public Health regulated by the National Board of Public Health examiners.
After the CEPH accreditation, the MPH program plans to expand its educational opportunities. In 2023, Adelphi will launch an online MPH program and a dual degree. This dual degree will provide very specialized training in the area of epidemiology and biostatistics to fill the vast need in the fields of data analysis, research and epidemiology.
