Adelphi to Host 37th Annual Golf Classic on June 16
Long Islander, Longtime Professor of Business, Rakesh Gupta, to be Honored
Garden City, NY (05/05/2025) — All are invited to Adelphi University's 37th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 16, at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York. This year, Adelphi will honor the exceptional contributions and impact of longtime faculty member Rakesh Gupta, Associate Professor of Decision Sciences and Marketing. Professor Gupta brings over five decades of academic excellence and leadership to his role in the Robert M. Willumstad School of Business, where he served as dean from 2008 to 2012, associate dean from 1999 to 2008, and has been a faculty member since 1978.
In addition to his academic influence as a professor, Professor Gupta is an inaugural Bhise Faculty Fellow and a driving force behind the Bhise Center for Global Understanding, serving as liaison on student trips abroad. Gupta integrates his expertise in strategic management, business ethics, and financial literacy with a global perspective. He also lends his expertise regularly in the media, including outlets such as U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, WalletHub, MoneyGeek and Long Island Business News.
"Professor Gupta's commitment to transformative education is evident in his leadership of international study tours and his research contributions to widely respected academic journals," said Adelphi's President Christine Riordan. "His admirable dedication to experiential and cross-cultural learning has made a lasting impact on our students and colleagues across institutions."
A Lifelong Commitment to Enriching Students' Lives
In line with his lifelong commitment to enriching student learning beyond traditional frameworks, Gupta recently established the Rakesh Gupta Experiential Learning Fund. This fund is designed to empower undergraduate students at Adelphi to pursue hands-on, immersive learning experiences that often involve travel and cultural exploration domestically and internationally. By supporting these unique opportunities, the fund aims to cultivate global awareness, personal growth, and development of adaptable, real-world skills-hallmarks of Gupta's educational philosophy.
Adelphi's Golf Classic is the perfect backdrop for honoring Professor Gupta's impact on the University, as it is an annual tradition that brings together University community members and supporters to raise crucial funds in support of Adelphi's mission to transform lives through education, a cause which is near and dear to him.
"This event is about more than golf-it's about coming together to champion the power of education, especially when delivered through a global perspective," said Thomas Kline, EdD, vice president of University advancement and external relations. "Having personally traveled abroad with students under the supervision of Professor Gupta, I have seen firsthand how he and these experiences transform the lives of students. I am delighted to know the Gupta Fund will continue to support these learning opportunities and further our mission to educate global leaders and thinkers."
Sponsorship opportunities and player registration for the Golf Classic are available now. For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Jackie Ahmetaj, associate director of the Adelphi Fund and signature events, at jahmetaj@adelphi.edu.
