Bestselling Author Hoffman to Discuss New 'Practical Magic' Novel at Adelphi Online Event

Garden City, NY (10/29/2021) — New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman will discuss her new novel, "The Book of Magic," the final chapter of the "Practical Magic" series, at Adelphi University on Wednesday, November 17.

The online event, part of the University's "Great Books, Great Conversations" series, will be hosted by Jacqueline Jones LaMon, professor and vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion at Adelphi, and Sybile Val, MD, a 1999 Adelphi graduate.

Hoffman, a 1973 graduate and 2002 honorary doctorate recipient of Adelphi, lives near Boston and is the author of more than 30 works of fiction, including "The World That We Knew," The Marriage of Opposites," "The Red Garden," "The Museum of Extraordinary Things," "The Dovekeepers," "Here on Earth" (Oprah's Book Club selection) along with the "series, "Practical Magic," "Magic Lessons," "The Rules of Magic" (a selection of Reese's Book Club) and "The Book of Magic."

Released in October 2021, "The Book of Magic" concludes the story of the Owens family, who has been cursed in matters of love for more than 300 years -though all of that is about to change. The novel begins in a library, when beloved aunt Jet Owens hears the deathwatch beetle and knows she has only seven days to live. Jet is not the only one in danger-the curse is already at work. A frantic attempt to save a young man's life spurs three generations of the Owens women and one long-lost brother to use their unusual gifts to break the curse as they travel from Paris to London to the English countryside where their ancestor Maria Owens first practiced the "unnamed art." The event is free, but registration is required. Learn more and register at adelphi.edu/AliceHoffmanBookofMagic
